
This 1 day Ziwa Rhino sanctuary safari takes you to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary located in Nakitoma Sub County Nakasongola district. This Rhino sanctuary is the only home to over 40 white rhinos in Uganda and rhino trekking being the major activity at this proud sanctuary. Other activities that may be carried out at Ziwa rhino sanctuary include nature walks, bird watching, canoe ride in the search for the elusive shoebill stork and viewing other mammals like the sitatunga antelopes warthogs and many more that you will indulge in if time allows.
On this beautiful day, you will be picked very early in the morning from the airport or a hotel around Entebbe or Kampala and embark on your 3 hours’ journey to Ziwa rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola that is just 7 kilometers from Kampala – Gulu highway. Arrival will be around 9am to have a briefing from the ranger guide about the sanctuary and rhino trekking rules. The ranger guide will lead you on your trek to encounter these majestic mammals in their natural habitat as he gives you each and every detail about the rhinos. You will stay in their presence for an hour as you learn about their behaviors and habits after which you will get back to a restaurant around to have lunch.
After lunch, you will proceed to have a canoe ride on Lugogo wetland where you will have the opportunity to spot the shoebill stork, various bird types like broad-billed roller, blue fly-catcher, bronze mankini, African black crake and a multitude of animals as you wind up your day at this beautiful sanctuary. Retire off the canoe to embark on your journey back to Kampala as you traverse various homesteads, towns and local roadside markets where you can buy fruits like pineapples, mangoes and many more to take with you home. Arrival will be in the late afternoon to be dropped off at the airport or any hotel of your choice for relaxation as you wait to go by your personal programs the coming day.
