Overview

10 days Uganda safari highlight is a high point and culmination of any Ugandan safari that features a city tour around Kampala, wildlife game viewing, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, cultural experience, watching several bird species, boat cruises to mention but a few. The 10 days Uganda safari highlight is therefore a wildlife episode designed to give the best of any Uganda vacation as you make visits to Murchison Falls National Park famous for its world’s most powerful waterfalls, Kibale National Park prominent for harboring over 13 primate species, Queen Elizabeth National Park celebrated for its abundant wildlife and uncommon tree climbing lions and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park that houses half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population.

Day 1: Arrival & Kampala city tour

Your driver guide from Glory summit tours and travel will be waiting to meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Kampala where you will check-in and have an early lunch. You will be then be briefed about your travel itinerary after which you will set off for a tour around the city center visiting major historical sites, cultural sites, art galleries and many more. Areas of interest will be the Kabaka’s palace, Kasubi toms, Uganda National Mosque, Uganda Museum, Bahai temple, Namugongo Martyr’s shrines and many others if time allows. You will be driven back to your hotel to have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls N/P via Ziwa rhino sanctuary

You will have your breakfast served checkout of the hotel in Kampala and set off to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola. Ziwa rhino sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where one can closely watch these endangered white rhinos in their natural habitat. You will be guided by an experienced ranger guide throughout the jungle while you search for the rhinos and upon finding them, you will spend an hour close to them as you clearly observe and learn about their behaviors and social lifestyle. You will embark on your drive to Masindi town for your lunch after which you will proceed to the Park arriving in the late afternoon to check-in at your pre-arranged lodge to have dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Morning game drive & afternoon boat cruise

Have your breakfast served early in the morning and depart for an early game drive across the savannah plains of the country’s largest protected area as you wait to encounter the big five. Other animals to lookout for include the Rothschild’s giraffe, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeests, Uganda kobs, reedbucks and many more. For bird enthusiasts, this is an opportunity for you to spot several savannah bird species like Guinee fowls, Abyssinian ground hornbills, black-chested black eagles, weavers to mention but a few. Return to your lodge for lunch after which you will head off for a boat cruise upstream to the bottom of the falls where you will catch glimpse of several aquatic animals like hippopotamuses, crocodiles and vast water birds. This lasts for about 2 to 3 hours after which you will be driven back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park & Crater Lakes visit

Enjoy your breakfast and checkout to depart for Kibale National Park situated in the west of the country famous for harboring vast numbers of chimpanzees. This National Park is also referred to as the world’s primate capital due to its 13 primate species which is the highest of any protected area in the country. You will have your lunch in Fort Portal which is Uganda’s tourism city as you capture great views of Mountain Rwenzori after which you will head off for a tour around the Kibale Ndali-Kasenda craters like Lake Nyabikere, Nyinambuuga Crater Lake, Nkurumba Crater Lake and many others. You will witness the spectacular views of nature centered in one region as well as spot several unique bird species. Continue to your reserved lodge to have dinner and an overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi wetland sanctuary

Wake up to a hefty breakfast and be driven to Kanyanchu visitors’ center where you will catch up with a briefing about chimpanzee trekking dos and don’ts. On the 5th day of 10 days Uganda Safari Highlight, you will then trek through the Park’s dense forests as you embark on the search of our closest relatives with whom we share 98% of our DNA. This is an opportunity for you to spot several other primates like the red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black and white colobus, grey-checked mangabeys, olive baboons and many more. Having located a troop of chimpanzees, you will spend an hour watching them closely go by their routine duties after which you will return to your lodge for lunch. After lunch you will have an opportunity for a guided walk through the Bigodi wetland also known as the home to the great blue turaco. Several bird species and other mammals like the sitatungas will be encountered before returning to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth N/P & evening game drive

Today morning have your breakfast served and continue with your trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park popular for its abundant wildlife. You will make a stopover at the equator line in Kikorongo to take some pictures as well as be entertained by the Kikorongo dancers group. Proceed with your drive to your lodge where you will check-in and have lunch. After lunch you will head off for an evening game drive as you look out for animals such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, Uganda kobs, reedbucks, waterbucks, bushbucks and many more. Retire off the Park’s plains in the late evening to be driven back to your lodge waiting to have dinner and an overnight.

Day 7: Morning game drive & Kazinga channel launch cruise

Today morning enjoy your breakfast and head off for a morning game drive where you will an opportunity to see several animals that you might have missed out in the previous day. The drive will take you through the Park’s trails as you lookout for animals like lions, hyenas, hippopotamuses rush back to the waters, warthogs, reeds and Uganda kobs notify each other about the presence of any predator and many more. Return to the lodge for lunch after which you will head off for a boat cruise along the Kazinga water channel. This will undoubtedly be one of your safari highlights as you sail through schools of hippopotamuses, watch crocodiles try out their trick hunting techniques, herds of elephants and buffaloes bathe and wallow and a wide range of beautiful bird species. Drive back to your lodge

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable N/P via Ishasha sector

Have your morning breakfast, checkout and set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha sector famously known for its residing tree climbing lions that are not found elsewhere in the country. You will make stopovers to clearly watch them relax on top of fig trees as they also target their prey from an aerial point of view. Continue with your drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will arrive to check-in at your lodge and have lunch. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a home to half of the word’s remaining gorilla population estimated to be more than 400 gorilla individuals. You will have an entire evening relaxation at your lodge as you prepare for the Bwindi mountain gorilla trekking experience in the next morning.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking & Batwa cultural experience

Today wake up to a hefty breakfast and report to the Park headquarters with parked lunch for a briefing about gorilla trekking etiquettes. You will be led by ranger guides into Bwindi’s misty forests to embark on the search of the assigned gorilla family that you will encounter after long hours of trek approximately 1 to 4 hours. Once the gorilla family is located, an hour will be allowed in their presence as you enjoy the thrill of spending time observe these gentle giants. The ranger guides will locate a safer place for you within the forest to have lunch after which you will proceed to the Batwa communities. During your Batwa cultural experience, you will be led by a Twa guide who will take you through the forest as he explains how they survived in the forests. Learn about their traditional lifestyle that you will compare with their current way of living. Get back to your lodge to have dinner and an overnight.

Day 10: Transfer back to Kampala

Having had your breakfast, checkout to meet your driver guide and hit the road back to Kampala while you admire the winding and rolling hills covered with green plantations. You will make a stopover in Mbarara for your lunch after which you will proceed for another stopover at the equator line in Kayabwe to take some pictures at the equator monument where the earth is divided into two equal parts. Make a visit to the art craft shops around to buy some souvenirs before you embark on your drive to Kampala. According to your time of flight, you will be driven further to the airport ready to catch your outbound flight back home or to other destinations, and this will mark the end of 10 days Uganda Safari Highlight.
