Overview

3 days Kyambura chimpanzee trekking is a short safari taking you to Queen Elizabeth National Park to have a touch of chimpanzees alongside fantastic game viewing. Kyambura is also known as the “Valley of Apes”, Kyambura gorge is a natural wonder located within Queen Elizabeth National Park, on of Uganda’s most famous and diverse protected areas. With the main attraction as the wild chimpanzees, the gorge is home to a habituated group of chimpanzees giving visitors a chance to interact with the primates. Away from the chimpanzees you should see other primates like olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys and more; animals like leopards, lions, elephants, buffaloes, forest hogs, kobs, hyenas, topis, serval cats, hippos and warthogs; birds like African finfoot, bee-eaters, martial eagles, African skimmers, fly-catchers, papyrus gonoleks, warblers; with a breathtaking view of crater lakes and beautiful scenery. The trip will start from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth and back to Kampala.

Day 1: Drive to Kyambura Gorge through Queen Elizabeth

You will be met by our driver guide from Glory Summit Tours at an agreed point, at which point he will brief you on how the trip is going to move and at 8:00am you will set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park which will take 7-8hours. Two stops will be had with one at the Equator for picture moments and stretching and the second one in Mbarara for lunch, after lunch you will continue to Queen Elizabeth where you will arrive in the evening in time for dinner. So you will check in and have dinner then retire for the night in preparation for the next day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and boat cruise

Breakfast will be had very early, you will be driven to Kyambura gorge’s starting point with water and a snack to keep you energized during the trek and you will start with a briefing from the guide with the rules and regulations and what to expect. Once the briefing is done, you will start your trekking at 8:00am with a guide to provide you with all needed information while on the trek and an armed guard to ensure your safety and the chimpanzees, the trek will take about 3-4hours and depending on where you find them, once located you will spend an hour with the chimpanzees and observe how they live, nest, feed, and groom and also take pictures to have the moments live on. You will return to the lodge when done to freshen up and have lunch head to Kazinga Channel and launch, the cruise will tale 3-4hours with a guide to avail answers for any questions you might have during the boat cruise and during the cruise you will see water animals like the hippopotamus, buffaloes, water bucks, crocodiles and bird species. You will head back to the hotel in time for dinner and after dinner you can enjoy the evening by the fire as you relive the experiences of the days and retire at will.

Day 3: Check out and departure.

With breakfast done, you will check out of the hotel and exit the park for Kampala. On your way to Kampala you will enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the countryside and also have a chance to take some pictures while at it. A stopover in Mbarara for lunch and another at the Equator for more pictures and exploring the craft world will be done. Then continue to Kampala at an agreed point which will mark the end of your trip.
