4 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari
Overview

Become acquainted with what transpired in Rwanda between 7th April and 15th July when the Tusti people and moderate Hutus were murdered by the Hutu militias as you make visits to various genocide memorials and museums while on your tour to Kigali. This safari also takes you to Akagera National park where you will encounter the big five as well as several bird types such as a shoebill stork having taken on a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Have a breathtaking and a life time experience on your encounter with the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys as you capture videos and take photos amidst them after which you will be captivated by Rwanda’s culture on your visit to the Ibyi’wachu cultural village.

Day 1: Kigali city tour – Transfer to Akagera National Park – Lake Ihema cruise

You will be received by our professional driver guide at the airport and immediately proceed for a city tour while visiting genocide memorials and museums such as the Gisozi genocide memorial and presidential palace museum while you learn about Rwanda’s history. You will have an early lunch in the city center after which you will be driven to Akagera National Park to check-in at a reserved lodge. Before you call it a day, you will proceed for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema sailing through concentrations of hippopotamuses and crocodiles while spotting other animals at the shores quench their thirst as others wallow.  

Day 2: Morning game drive – shift to Volcanoes National Park

After your morning breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive in the savannah plains of Akagera where you will have the opportunity to spot the big five and other animals such as zebras, impalas, giraffes, cape elands, bushbucks, warthogs waterbucks to mention but a few. A variety of bird species will be spotted too after which you will get back to the lodge for lunch and later check-out to catch your drive to Volcanoes National Park. This is a four and a half hours drive via Kigali-Ruhengeri arriving to check-in at a pre-arranged lodge to have dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trek – Ibyi’wachu cultural tour

Have an early breakfast and be driven to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla trekking dos and don’ts. Walking sticks will be availed to you and be led by the range guides into the jungle through uneven terrain to embark on the search of the gentle giants. This may last for an hour to 6 hours depending on the location or movement of the gorillas. You will be entitled to spending an hour amidst the gorillas once they are sighted. Descend back to the lodge to have lunch and later proceed for a cultural tour at Ibyi’wachu cultural village. You will have an insight into Rwandese culture by learning their cultural norms and values such as their traditional marriage, cultural wear and many more while you enjoy their cultural performances. Return back to the lodge for your dinner and an overnight.

Day 4: Golden monkey trek – transfer to Kigali and departure

After your hefty breakfast, return to the park headquarters to be briefed about the golden monkey trekking rules. You will proceed with the park rangers to the volcano slopes dominated by bamboo forests to embark on the search of the golden monkeys. Unlike gorilla trekking, this is less strenuous since this monkey species only thrive and flourish around bamboo forests. You will enjoy an hour with the playful golden monkeys after which you will transcend back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will check-out and embark on your drive to Kigali to be dropped off at a hotel of your choice or airport depending the time for your flight.
