Overview
6 Days Rwanda Big 5 Safari is a fantastic trip that will expose you to the hidden treasures of Rwanda a land of a thousand hills. This safari will throw you in the oldest national park in Africa established in 1934 and that is Akagera National Park and it is the only national park in Rwanda where you will find the Big 5. The park is a home to elephants, buffaloes, black and white rhinos, lions, leopards and these are the Big 5 of the jungle, the park is a home to other species like giraffes, zebras, impalas, sitatungas, bushbucks, elands, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, roan antelopes to mention but a few. The trip will start from Kigali and end in Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival and City tour
Upon arrival, our driver guide will pick you from the Airport, greet you, he will then take you through the itinerary and thereafter, you will embark on the city tour. This city tour will grant you a chance to visit Genocide museum to learn the history of the massacre of the Hutu and Tutsi that happened in 1994, you will letter go to the local markets, where you will interact with the locals, visit different artisans, buy some souvenirs and then head back to the booked hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Arise in the morning, enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, check-out of the lodge and head to the countryside in the Eastern Rwanda. This is about 5hours drive away from Kigali which is the city of Rwanda, you will arrive in the afternoon hours, check-in to the lodge accommodation, have lunch and enjoy an evening game drive. You will spot some species such buffaloes, lions, rhinos, elephants, antelopes and magical sunsets of the rolling Rwanda hills. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Full day game drive and boat cruise
You will wake up in the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast and meet your driver guide and hit the jungle to spot the animals when they are still very active in the morning, you will be welcomed by herds of elephants, rhinos, lions will be roaring and leopards will be busy winding up the night shift by making a kill that will take them through the day. Some birds will be singing for you till midmorning when you come back at you lodge for relaxation as you enjoy the aura of your lodge, lunch will be served at your balcony, then later in the at around 3pm, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema and this is the best time to see most of the animals that will be coming to drink water and water birds will be fringing the lake shore. After the dusk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
This is another beautiful day for you to see the best of Rwanda, after you have enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast, you will check-out of the lodge and head to Volcanoes National Park traversing the country from East to West where Volcanoes National Park borders Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Lunch will be served on the way and you enjoy the beautiful scenery of Northern Rwanda, proceed to Volcanoes, arriving in the evening hours, check-in to the lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking and Iby’wacu cultural tour
This is yet another eventful day that you have been waiting for, please, wake up on a delicious breakfast and head to the park headquarters where you are going to be briefed about gorilla trekking etiquettes, be assigned a gorilla family to track and then you will be led by a ranger guide who will lead you to the gorilla family that you are going to track. You will have to spend an hour with the gorillas, taking pictures and videos, later get back to the park headquarters to get a tracking certificate, proceed to the lodge for lunch, relaxation and in the evening you will visit the Iby’wacu cultural center where Rwanda culture is expressed through dances, ancient story tells, food, beliefs among others. You will later return to the lodge in the late evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Check-out and departure
On this day, you will rise in the morning, enjoy a delicious breakfast, check-out of the lodge for your last leg of the trip. You will be transferred to Kigali International Airport where you will catch the flight back home thus marking the end of 6 Days Big 5 Safari.
