Overview

With more than half of the world population of the magnificent mountain gorillas, Uganda is renowned for its gorilla trekking experiences, providing visitors with the opportunity to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is unearthed in the South Western part on Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley inside the most densely populated areas which are Kanungu, Kabale and Kisoro; it was listed as UNESCO world heritage site due to its ecological importance and it became popular to the world because of Gorilla trekking as mountain gorillas were declared endangered and at risk of extinction.

Gorilla trekking is an extraordinary wildlife experience that allows you to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This adventure takes place in the dense forests of Central Africa, primarily in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The experience is unique and adventurous. Mountain gorillas are found in two main locations in Uganda which are the same places where trekking can be done: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Both these parks offer the experience of gorilla trekking, hikes, birding, community visits to give a full circle kind of process.

You will fly from Germany (major airports like Frankfurt, Munich, or Berlin) to Entebbe International Airport with one or two stopovers. Once you arrive in Uganda, you will be picked by our driver guide from Glory Summit tours who will also brief you on how the trip will or should be. Your trip will start from Entebbe international airport and end there too. For a smooth trip, gorilla trekking permits will be booked in advance about 3 months, so will accommodation and everything else that will be needed to ensure that the trip is a success for the tourist with consideration of the time as the best months to track are during the dry seasons as it eases the trekking and hiking in the beautiful forests as you track the magnificent apes.

One should be ready for the hikes as they can be strenuous and require a good level of fitness as the terrain is often steep and the vegetation is dense. You will be in a small group of 8 people and this doesn’t include the guide and ranger who ensure the safety and protection of both the gorillas and humans ensuring a great experience for the tourists. A tourist should pack well for the trip with essentials that keep the experience as should be and this includes proper clothes, essentials like insect repellent, sunscreen, waterproof covers, cameras and more.

One must also ensure that before they travel their passport is up to date and valid, check for the visa requirements to Uganda and any other vaccine certificates that might be needed to make sure that once travelling, there are no problems that will make the trip bad in any way.

One should always be mindful and Respect local customs and communities. Many tours include visits to nearby villages where you can learn about the local culture and support community projects. Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering a profound connection with one of the world’s most endangered species in their natural environment.
