Overview

6 days Kibale Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park Safari will take you to three interesting and diverse destinations to discover the best of wildlife, birds, and primates with chimpanzees headlining, landscapes and experiences. Coupled together from all three expect to see leopards, elephants, rhinos, hippopotamuses, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, forest hogs, kobs, oribis, crocodiles, lions, chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons; birds like African fish eagle, shoebill stork, pied kingfisher, egrets, herons, ross’s turaco, narina trogon and the African finfoot, all these for a beautiful experience. The trip will start from Kampala via Kibale forest to Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo then back to Kampala.

Day 1: Drive to Kibale Forest Forest National Park

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our driver guide from Glory Summit Tours and Travel who will also brief you on how your trip will move after which you will set off for Kibale Forest National Park and the journey will take about 5-6 hours. You will enjoy the amazing views of the country side including the Rwenzori Mountains, tea and banana plantations, crater lakes and many others. A stop over for lunch will be done in Fort Portal town also known as the Tourism city as you enjoy more spectacular sites then continue to the park and arrive in the evening, on arrival you will check into your lodging and have dinner then rest for the night.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland

An early breakfast is scheduled after which you will head to the Kanyachu visitors center at 7:30am for briefing before your trek, during this briefing the rules will be given on how to handle the trek in general then a park guide will be allocated to you. The trek goes on for about 30minutes-4hours. Once the chimps are found, you will be given an hour with them in their habitat and see how they live, feed, play and nest. Other primates like baboons and monkeys plus different bird species like the Ross’s turaco, black bee-eater, yellow billed barbet, African grey parrot and African green pigeon will be seen during the trek. After the trek you will head back to the lodge, freshen up after which you will have lunch and rest before you head out for the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a hike. Away from the birding experience, Bigodi is a community and the sanctuary provides the basics like education, food, housing to the people in this community; with crafting and weaving as one of the many ways people in the community are supported to stay afloat. While at the sanctuary you will see birds like the great blue turaco, crowned eagles, pigeons, black bee-eaters; primates like olive baboons, vervet monkeys, Ugandan mangabeys and rarely chimpanzees while on the hike and this will take about 3hours. You will then return to the hotel in time for dinner after which you will take leave and rest for the night.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth and boat cruise

You will wake up, ready to check out, have breakfast then exit Kibale forest for Queen Elizabeth which will take about 2-3hours and as you find your way to Queen Elizabeth you will have a beautiful scenery to work with of the Rwenzori mountains, Lake George and many other features and will reach Queen Elizabeth in time for lunch and check in. Once done with lunch you will head out for a Boat cruise at the Kazinga channel. The cruise will launch after lunch and will take 2-3hours with a guide ready to answer any questions you might have about the channel or animals and birds along the banks. Animals like hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, water bucks and antelopes to be seen; birds like spoonbills, fish eagles, king fishers, herons and the rare shoebill stork can also be expected. After the cruise you will return to the lodging for the night, have dinner and wind down as you will.

Day 4: Tracking Lions and Transfer to Lake Mburo

After breakfast you will be picked by the driver guide for the morning game drive in the Ishasha sector to track the tree-climbing lions. You will get a chance to monitor the Lions in their habitat and how they behave. You will also see other animals like kobs, water bucks, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs and various birds like white-bellied cormorants, yellow billed stork, bush-shrike, pelicans and black bee-eaters. After tracking the tree-climbing lions you will head back to your lodge, checkout and have lunch then exit Queen Elizabeth for Lake Mburo. This drive will be about 3hours and you will get to Lake Mburo in the evening just in time for dinner which you will enjoy after you have checked into your lodging for the night and then rest for the night.

Day 5: Guided nature walk and evening game drive 

You will have breakfast and then you will head to Rubanga forest for your nature walk, expect to see birds like green pigeon, harrier hawk, double toothed barbet, shoebill stork, narina trogon, grey-backed camaroptera, ross’s turaco, red-shouldered cuckoo, bustard, francolin; tree species like gigs, palm and acacia and animals like buffaloes, antelopes, waterbucks, impalas, bushbucks, topis and more. You will then head back to the lodge after the guided nature walk for lunch and freshen up and head out for a late afternoon game drive and during the drive you will see zebras, impalas, warthogs, waterbucks, elands, giraffes, antelopes, hyenas, buffaloes, topis and birds like fish eagles and the rare shoebill stork. After the game drive, you will head back to the lodge in time for dinner, and then you will enjoy the night and retire at will.

Day 6: Checkout and departure

With breakfast done, you will check out of the hotel and exit the park for Kampala. On your way to Kampala you will enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the countryside and also have a chance to take some pictures while at it. A stopover in Mbarara for lunch and another at the Equator for more pictures and exploring the craft world will be done. Then continue to Kampala at an agreed point which will mark the end of your 6 days trip.
