Overview

5 days Uganda double gorilla trekking safari is a fantastic safari that will draw you closer to magnificent mountain gorillas, both Bwindi and Mgahinga which is a beautiful rare gem and the smallest park in Uganda will certainly give you the thrill and adventure sought out as you trek deep within both forests having a treat of a lifetime and not forgetting the scenic views of the country side. Away from the Mountain Gorillas, you will also be exposed to several bird species with 19 endemics like Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori turaco, dusky crimson-wing, regal sunbirds, blue-headed sunbirds, strange weavers, rodents, other primates like monkeys with the rare golden monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees, animals like elephants, giant forest hogs, antelopes, duikers, bushbucks, bush pigs and jackals and finally the Batwa people, their culture and histories. All these make for a beautiful experience and will be done with guides and armed ranger to ensure safety but also provide any information you might need about the national park or its surrounding communities. The trip will start from Kampala to Mgahinga to Bwindi and back to Kampala.

Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Mgahinga

At the agreed spot, you will meet with our driver guide from Glory summit tours in the morning who will brief you about the trip, at which point any questions or concerns from you will be addressed. You will set off for at 7:30am Mgahinga which will take about 9 hours enjoying the great scenery, landscape and physical features of the country side. A stopover will be made in Mbarara for lunch, then you will proceed to Mgahinga where you will arrive in time for dinner and then check into your lodging for the night so you can rest and be ready for the next day.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tour

A very early breakfast will be served and after you will be driven to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the regulations to follow during the trek, how to behave and what to expect to ensure a smooth trek. With a guide and armed ranger your trek will start and will take about 30minutes- 6hours and when the gorilla family is found you will be given an hour with them get to see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, how they live, care for each other, care for their young, how and when they eat, during the trek you will be given water and a snack for when you need it. Also expect to see monkeys, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, forest hogs, bush pigs, bushbucks, porcupines and spotted hyenas. When done with the trekking, you will go back to your lodge and freshen up then have lunch. There after you will visit the Batwa people for a community tour. With the help of a local guide, you will be involved in different community activities like music, dance and drama, crafting and honey harvesting. Story telling will also be key as a way to learn the Batwa people’s history and what makes them an interesting group people. You will the return to the lodge, have dinner and then wind down the day with a relaxed evening into the night, and retire as and when you wish.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi

You will check out of your lodge, have breakfast then set off for Bwindi which will take 2-3hours and on your way to Bwindi you will enjoy the rich green vegetation and scenery. Once you get to Bwindi, you will check into your lodge for the next two days, have lunch and then prepare for the Buhoma community walk. With a local guide you will go to Buhoma community and unveil the locals living in this sector, engage with them in different ways like music, dance, drama, cooking, brewing, medicines and locally made crafts. An experience that will give you a different feel of culture unfamiliar to you. You will then return to your lodging, have dinner then rest in preparation for the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

The day meant to trek our gorillas will be the second. We shall wake up early and have breakfast and have the lunch packed then head to the briefing spot by 7:30am where we shall be given the guidelines and safety precautions to be followed by a guide to ensure a smooth trek before we head into the forest to experience it. Depending on the targeted Gorilla families given to you to trek, the trekking will take between 30minutes-6hours, it’s in this time that we shall get to see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, how they live, care for each other, care for their young, how and when they eat will be observed by you with a guide and armed ranger on route with you. After the trek, you will return to the lodge, refresh and have lunch. The evening will be used for some relaxation at the lodge with a fire at night to end the day at will.

Day 5: Checkout and departure

You will wake up to a beautiful breakfast to start the day, after which you will check out and start on your journey back to Kampala. You will have a stopover at a hotel in Mbarara for lunch and the equator for some more pictures and check out the crafting village in the area. Then continue to Kampala at an agreed spot and this will mark the end of your 5 day gorilla trekking safari.
