6 Days Uganda primates and Lake Bunyonyi this is a safari that will combine primates with the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees for trekking and a session of relaxation at the Lake Bunyonyi to close the trip. Uganda is blessed to have more than half of the world’s population of the mountain gorillas and a good number of chimpanzees which when combined make for a spectacular adventure. However Lake Bunyonyi is the best way to cool off after all that busyness as it has the best options for it and is the second biggest lake in Africa. Expect to see primates like mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, galagos, olive baboons, pottos and mangabeys; animals like elephants, buffaloes, forest hogs, warthogs, bush pigs, duikers, bushbacks and antelopes; birds like egrets, slender –billed baglafetch, weaver birds, herons, grey crowned cranes, regal sunbird, black-billed turaco, mountain oriole, shelley’s crimsonwing, dusky crimsonwing, Rwenzori nightjar, green-breasted pitta, dusky crimsonwing, king fishers, gonoleks, hairy-breasted barbet, bushshrike, masked apalis, great-blue turaco, beautiful scenery with vegetation, crater lakes and many more. The trip will start from Kampala and end in Kampala.
Day 1: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
Day 1 of 6, will have you meet with our driver guide from Glory Summit Tours at a spot chosen by you and he will give you a brief of how the trip will unfold for the next 6days. You will then set off for Kibale which is about 5-6hours, with a lunch stop in Fort Portal town. After lunch you will visit the famous Amabeere ga Nyinamwiru, learn about the history and also have some picture moments. Once done with Amabeere, you will proceed to Kibale and check into your lodge for the night. You will have dinner and retire for the night.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi cultural walk
An early breakfast is scheduled after which you will head to the Kanyachu visitors center at 7:30am for briefing before your trek, during this briefing the rules will be given on how to handle the trek in general then a park guide will be allocated to you. The trek goes on for about 30minutes-4hours. Once the chimps are found, you will be given an hour with them in their habitat. Other primates like baboons and monkeys plus different bird species will be seen during the trek. Lunch will be served after the trek at the lodge, thereafter you will get ready for the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a walk, accompanied by a local guide you will learn more about the different cultures, local medicines and traditional life. Story telling will be done by the community people, plus the history and issues being faced by the developing community will also be looked at. While at the sanctuary you will see birds and primates even chimpanzees which might be rare while on the hike and this will take about 3hours. You will then return to the hotel in time for dinner after which you will take leave and rest for the night at will.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi
You will checkout of your lodging, have breakfast and exit Kibale for Bwindi which will take about 7-8hours. You will have a stopover in Kabale for lunch before you proceed to Bwindi as you enjoy the green and beautiful scenery and landscape. You will arrive in the evening, in time to check in then have dinner. With dinner out of the way, you will retire in preparation for the next day.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Batwa cultural tour
You will wake up early and have breakfast and head to the briefing spot by 7:30am where you shall be given the guidelines and safety precautions to be followed by a guide to ensure a smooth trek before you head into the forest to experience it. Depending on the targeted Gorilla families given to you to trek, the trekking will take between 30 minutes-6hours, it’s in this time that you shall get to see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, how they live, care for each other, care for their young, how and when they eat, all this will be done with a guide and armed ranger on route with you. During the trek you will be given water and a snack for when you need it. When done with the trekking, you will go back to your lodge and freshen up then have lunch. There after you will visit the Batwa people for a community tour. With the help of a local guide, you will be involved in different community activities like music, dance and drama, crafting and honey harvesting. Story telling will also be key as a way to learn the Batwa people’s history and what makes them an interesting group people. You will the return to the lodge, have dinner and end the day.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
You will wake up in time for breakfast and checkout, after which you will exit the park for Lake Bunyonyi which will take about 3-4hours. During this time you will enjoy the green scenic views and also have some picture moments as beautiful views must be captured for memories. You will get to your lodge at Lake Bunyonyi in time for lunch, after which you will check and rest before you set out for some canoeing and relaxation by the lake. You will head out for canoeing on Lake Bunyonyi with 29 islands to be visited, you will not miss out on the most popular island which is ‘Punishment Island’ and you will also get to see some birds like the grey shrikes, king fishers, herons, sunbirds, raptors, bee-eaters, widow birds and weavers and after you will relax by the lake and enjoy the sunset and this is breathtaking for a view. You will return to the lodge in time for dinner, after which you can relax and retire at will.
Day 6: Checkout and departure
You will wake up to a beautiful breakfast, and then check out of the lodge and prepare for your departure for Kampala and this will take about 9hours. You will have two stop overs; with one in Mbarara for lunch and another at the equator, for picture taking moments and exploring the craft village after which you will continue to Kampala and will be dropped off at the agreed upon point which will mark the end of the 6 day trip.
