These 5 days Kibale and Bwindi gorilla safari is an incredible adventure and trekking safari that will take you to Kibale Forest National Park a haven to over 13 primate species which is the highest of any National Park in the pearl of Africa. You will further more proceed far away in the southwestern region to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park that harbors half of the word’s remaining gorilla population that will be evident as you meet them in their natural habitat. Enjoy the existence of one of Africa’s most indigenous tribes known as the Batwa who are also the former forest keepers of the Bwindi forests as you will get to learn how they lived in harmony with the Bwindi gorillas.
Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to Kibale National Park
Our professional driver guide will be waiting to welcome you on this beautiful day, brief you about the safari and immediately set off for Kibale National Park. This is a 5 to 6 hours’ drive that will take you through Uganda’s beautiful scenery such as her rolling hills terraced with tea plantations, banana plantations, mountain Rwenzori peaks spotted at a distance and many more. Your lunch en-route will be in Fort portal which is regarded as Uganda’s tourism city due to its magnificent scenery and numerous cultural and religious places of significance. Arrival will be in the late afternoon to check-in at a reserved lodge to have dinner and an overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi wetland walk
Have an early breakfast, meet your driver guide and proceed to Kanyachu visitor’s center for a briefing about the chimpanzee trekking rules. A ranger guide will lead you to embark on the search of one of the habituated chimpanzee group as you spot several bird species and other primates such as the blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, baboons, grey-checked mangabeys and many more. An hour will be allowed as you closely watch the chimpanzees go by their daily duties. Return back to have lunch at the lodge before heading for a nature walk around the home of the great blue turaco. You will be led to this 3 hours’ activity by a ranger guide to this jungle swamp as you spot various bird types, primates as well as a few mammals. Return to the lodge for relaxation, have dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Wake-up so early to grab yourself a cup of coffee, check-out and meet your driver guide to be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will encounter our closest cousins in their natural habitat. This is a 6 to 7 hours’ drive with a lunch en-route along the way as you enjoy the great views of the Switzerland of Uganda while you spot dotted traditional homesteads, rolling hills, terraced slopes and many more. Arrival will be in the late afternoon to check-in, relax, have dinner and an overnight as you wait to have your safari highlight in the next morning.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking and Batwa cultural experience
Have a hefty breakfast and meet your driver guide with parked lunch to be driven to the park headquarters for a briefing about the gorilla trekking dos and don’ts. You will be given walking sticks and allocated the gorilla family to go trekking which takes to about 1 hour to 6 hours depending on their movement. You will closely observe their habits for an hour such as feeding, groom the infants, breastfeed, and many more which is so breathtaking and worth capturing. Transcend back to the lodge to relax a bit and snacking before you proceed to meet the Batwa pygmies. A Batwa guide will lead you through this cultural experience as he narrates how they lived in the forests with wild animals. Learn about their ancient hunting skills, honey collection, medicinal herbs and many more while you may engage in their cultural performances. Return to the lodge to have dinner and an overnight.
Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala and departure
This beautiful day starts with a relaxed breakfast, check-out to embark on your drive back to Kampala as you truly enjoy the eye catching views of the countryside and the Kigezi landscape arriving in Mbarara for your lunch. You will later proceed past Masaka with a stop-over at the equator line in Kayabwe where you will take photos at the equator monument and shop some souvenirs from the craft shops to take back home. Arrival in the city center will be in the late afternoon to be dropped off at the airport or hotel of your choice for relaxation as you wait catch your flight.
