Overview

5 days Rwanda primates safari is a stunning safari as you make visits to Rwanda’s primates destinations that include Nyungwe Forest National Park a haven to over 13primate species, famous for Chimpanzee trekking and Volcanoes National Park where you will engage in wondrous and fascinating activities like gorilla and golden monkey trekking. You will have great views of Nyungwe forests, great East African region and Lake Kivu as you walk along a 70meter suspended bridge in tree tops known as a canopy walk. You will as well be excited to indulge in Rwanda’s culture on your visit to Ibyi’wacu cultural village where you will interact with the locals, learn about their cultural traditions and values, engage in cultural practices such as marriage ceremonies, milking, cultural dish preparation, use of bow and arrow to mention but a few.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park

A driver guide from Glory summit tours and travel will be waiting to receive you at Kigali international airport. He will then take you through a briefing of your itinerary while being clear on your safari expectations after which you will embark on your 4 to 5 hours’ drive to Nyungwe forest National Park. You will have a stopover in Nyanza where you will make visits to Nyanza genocide memorial, king’s palace museum and Butare museum where you will have an insight of how culture was like in Rwanda before colonization and what transpired during Rwanda’s 1994 genocide where the inferior Tutsis were brutally killed by the Hutus. Arrival at Nyungwe forest National Park will be in the evening to check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Have your breakfast very early in the morning, meet your driver guide to be transferred to the Park headquarters to catch up with the chimp trekking briefing. You will then be led into Nyungwe forests by ranger guides to locate at least a troop of chimpanzees as you spot several other primates like baboons, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and many more with a variety of bird species. After you have located the chimpanzees, an hour will be allowed as you closely watch as they carry on their duties before you return to your lodge for lunch. After lunch you will head off for a canopy walk experience where you will be able to see the entire forests from a suspended bridge on tree tops. You will have an aerial view of the park while spotting some mammals and several bird types. You will later on return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up to a scrumptious breakfast and checkout to embark on your 6hours’ adventurous journey to Volcanoes National Park where you will encounter the gentle giants in their natural habitat. You will be driven through meandering roads as you enjoy the beautiful sceneries of rolling and cultivated terraced hills with a stopover at Lake Kivu for an afternoon cruise exposing you to several bird types and many more beautiful features.  You will have a lakeside lunch while you have great views of the lake and take photos before you proceed with your drive to Volcanoes National Park and arriving to check-in at your reserved lodge for dinner and a night stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and Ibyi’wacu cultural village

Today you will have your breakfast served very early in the morning and be driven to Kinigi Park headquarters to catch up with a briefing about gorilla trekking. A gorilla family will be allocated that you will go trekking after which you will hit the forests to embark on the search of the gentle giants in their natural habitat. Once you locate the gorillas, an hour will be allowed as you closely spot and follow after them as they feed and groom their young ones. You will head back to the lodge for lunch before you make a visit to the Gorilla Guardians village that combines Rwanda’s known traditions, history and people in one place for display and personal experience. You will get know how life was in a typical African village setting as you learn about their traditions, dress code, food preparation, housings, traditional dances and how the ancient kingdoms were organized. You will return back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and departure

Have your morning breakfast and return to Kinigi Park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking. You will then be led into the jungle to locate this playful and active monkey specie as you follow after their droppings and broken bamboo shoots and leaves. Locating them may last for 30 minutes to an hour after which you are allowed to spend an hour as you closely observe them. You will return back to your lodge, have lunch and checkout to be driven back to Kigali international airport to catch your outbound flight or your hotel of residence in Kigali for a drop off as you wait for the time of your booked flight.
